How to Clean Your Heated Vest: A Step-by-Step Guide for Long-Lasting Warmth
Heated vests are a fantastic way to stay warm, but proper care is essential to maintain their performance and longevity. Whether you’ve been wearing yours through chilly workdays, winter adventures, or simply to keep cozy, follow these steps and tips to clean your heated vest safely.
Key Considerations Before Washing
Before washing, ensure your heated vest is powered off and disconnected from any external power sources. For our carbon fiber heated vest, we’ve conducted rigorous wash testing to ensure durability and safety, but following the right steps will keep it in the best shape possible. This year, we’re also providing a free laundry bag with each vest, which adds extra protection for your vest during washing. (Note: only the 2024 version heated jackets and fleece vest have.)
Step-by-Step Washing Instructions
Machine Washing
- Disconnect the Battery: Remove the battery pack from your vest. Never attempt to wash the vest while the battery is connected.
- Place in a Laundry Bag: Use the free laundry bag provided to place your vest inside. This helps prevent any potential friction or snagging.
- Choose the Right Cycle: Set your washing machine to a gentle or delicate cycle with cold water. Hot water may damage the heating elements and fabric.
- Use Mild Detergent: Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, as these can affect the heating components and fabric quality.
-
Air Dry Only: After washing, gently reshape your vest and let it air dry flat. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat can damage the heating elements.
Hand Washing
- Prepare Cold Water: Fill a basin or sink with cold water and add a small amount of mild detergent.
- Soak and Wash Gently: Submerge your vest and gently agitate the water without wringing or scrubbing. Focus on any stained areas with gentle motions.
- Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the vest with clean cold water to remove any detergent residue.
- Air Dry: Lay the vest flat in its natural shape to air dry. Never twist or wring out the vest, as this could damage internal components.
Additional Tips for Care
- Battery Storage: Always store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use and recharge it periodically if it’s stored long-term.
- Avoid Heat Sources: When drying, keep the vest away from direct sunlight, heaters, or other sources of heat.
- Inspect for Wear: Over time, inspect your vest and its components. While our carbon fiber heating technology is durable, check connections and wires periodically to ensure optimal performance.
By following these steps, you can keep your heated vest clean, functional, and safe, providing you with warmth for seasons to come. Happy washing and stay warm!
